RU LAWRENCE

FOUNDER AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Ru Lawrence is a recognised movement director, performer, and theatre-maker from the South West of England, now based in London after receiving a 1st class degree in physical theatre from East15 Acting School. A working-class, queer, non-binary artist, their practice is rooted in truth and honesty, using the body as a primary tool to tell stories that explore grief, queerness, and working-class experience. They have trained and collaborated with leading physical theatre companies including Gecko, Frantic Assembly, and the David Glass Ensemble.

Ru is the founder and Artistic Director of the internationally known company Tailwind Physical Theatre, where they create bold, movement-led performances that centre marginalised voices. Tailwind’s work, 'I Wish You Called,' has been featured at the Toronto Queer Film Festival and Dance East's 'Youth Fest'. Ru's most recent production G R I E F C A S E has been presented across mid-scale and Off-West End venues including the Union Theatre, The Hope Theatre, and Siobhan Davies Studios. A full-scale production returns this Autumn in collaboration with The Hope Theatre.
